Prosecutors created the case on Monday that the money and luxury vehicles former Citibank govt Inong Malinda Dee lavished on her young husband amounted to cash laundering.

In a nine-page indictment, prosecutor Helmi told the South Jakarta District Court that actor Andhika Gumilang received cash transfers he knew, or have to be compelled to have suspected, were proceeds from his wife’s crimes.

Malinda, 47, is accused of embezzling a minimum of Rp twenty nine billion ($3.3 million) throughout her time as a client relations manager for Citibank Indonesia during a case that has implicated many of her relations.

He was conjointly charged on another count underneath an updated 2010 law, that carries a most sentence of five years and a fine of up to Rp one billion.

Andhika, Helmi said, held a savings account at the Sudirman Park branch of BCA Bank from Jan. 5, 2010, till October of that year. throughout that point, the account received twenty four money deposits from Malinda of around Rp one hundred forty million every. additionally, Andhika’s account received six checks from Malinda price regarding Rp seventy five million every and another five million via ATM transfer.

Helmi said Malinda twice had her younger sister Visca Lovitasari, conjointly a suspect within the case, transfer Rp ten million to Andhika’s BCA account. Another of the suspects, Visca’s husband Ismail bin Janim, was conjointly instructed by Malinda to transfer Rp five million into Andhika’s account.

“These funds were employed by Andhika to form many payments on a white Honda CRV,” said Helmi, reading from the indictment.

In addition to cash, Andhika was given a Hummer H3 sport utility vehicle by his wife, Helmi said. Malinda bought the vehicle from the Chosen dealership for Rp one.2 billion and created a down payment of Rp 372.5 million.

Helmi said the money sent to Andhika’s account and used to shop for the Hummer came from 3 Citibank customers at the Landmark Kuningan branch, as well as Suryati T. Budiman.

The funds were moved by Malinda using cast transfer forms. Malinda gave the falsified forms to tellers to method, Helmi said.

Andikha conjointly faces a charge underneath the criminal code for employing a cast ID card. in keeping with Helmi, Malinda’s husband used a faux ID to use for an account at the West Tebet branch of BCA Bank in South Jakarta.

“The accused used a KTP cast with the name Juan Farrero,” Helmi said.

Researchers Say Laser might Detect Roadside Bombs

roadside bomb laser
Researchers at Michigan State University have developed a laser that would be used to detect roadside bombs, additionally referred to as improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The device isn't any stronger than a typical presentation pointer, however it's the sensitivity and selectivity to scan giant areas and detect the chemicals utilized in these deadly bombs, that have accounted for concerning sixty % of soldier deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The main challenge in identifying roadside bomb chemicals is that they're sometimes hidden among chemical compounds that mask the molecules that indicate the presence of a bomb.
"Having molecular structure sensitivity is important for identifying explosives and avoiding unnecessary evacuation of buildings and shutting roads because of false alarms," team leader Marcos Dantus, a chemistry professor at MSU and founding father of BioPhotonic Solutions, said in a very statement.
The laser developed by Dantus will distinguish explosives from non-harmful compounds for quantities as tiny as a fraction of a billionth of a gram, he said.
To do so, the laser beam sends out short pulses that kick the molecules and create them vibrate and long pulses to that researchers will "listen" and determine totally different "chords." These chords have totally different vibrational frequencies that may perceive every molecule, sort of a fingerprint. The laser can be used with a camera, thus troopers might scan a locality from afar.
"The laser and also the methodology we've developed were originally meant for microscopes, however we tend to were able to adapt and broaden its use to demonstrate its effectiveness for standoff detection of explosives," Dantus said.
The team's analysis was revealed within the current problems with Applied Physics Letters. it had been funded by a partial grant from the Department of Homeland Security, however Dantus said he hopes to amass further funding to assist take the technology from the lab into the sector.

UN assembly backs steps to fight chronic disease

World leaders risk economic harm if they are doing not tackle killers like cancer and diabetes joined with the industries that have an effect on public health, a high-level U.N. meeting on chronic disease heard.

The General Assembly session on noncommunicable diseases on Monday and Tuesday is just the second such meeting in United Nations history to specialize in world health, when nations came along to deal with the AIDS epidemic ten years ago.

"Our collaboration is quite a public health necessity. Noncommunicable diseases are a threat to development," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told the meeting. "NCDs hit the poor and vulnerable notably onerous and drive them deeper into poverty."

Chronic diseases kill quite thirty six million individuals a year and can value the world economy nearly $47 trillion within the next twenty years, the planet Economic Forum says. the quantity of deaths might rise to fifty two million per year in that point, in line with the planet Health Organization.

Nations face a tough and sophisticated task in drawing up a world action commit to fight heart disease, cancer, diabetes, mental illness and respiratory disease -- several of that are linked to selections concerning diet, tobacco, alcohol and exercise.

They need cooperation from firms that build food, drug and tobacco merchandise, likewise as from employers which will have environmentally hazardous workplaces.

Expectations going into the meeting already had been lowered, as wealthy nations and multinational firms were unlikely to simply accept a money hit within the close to term to assist fund and promote the initiatives among poorer nations.

Monday, the final Assembly adopted a declaration recognizing the economic and social burdens of chronic disease, while not setting specific goals to scale back their impact.

Recommendations included promoting healthier diets, tobacco-free workplaces, access to cancer screening programs and breast-feeding for concerning six months from birth, likewise as encouraging alliances to get new medicines.

IMPORTANT begin

Members of the health community said the trouble was a crucial begin nonetheless.

"It brought plenty of attention to noncommunicable diseases," said Professor K.M. Venkat Narayan, a public health professor at Emory University in Atlanta, who attended the meeting.

"What is missing could be a commitment to action ... everyone is talking concerning what they need done to this point. they're not talking concerning what has to get done and what it'll take."

Ann Keeling, chairwoman of the NCD Alliance, an umbrella organization for health teams, said governments ought to use the momentum from the summit to hunt "ambitious targets to curb the epidemic."

While usually thought of as diseases of the wealthy world -- linked to fatty, sugary foods, very little exercise and an excessive amount of alcohol and tobacco -- NCDs currently disproportionately have an effect on individuals in poorer nations. quite eighty p.c of NCD deaths are among individuals in low and middle income countries.

"It's a positive that the U.N. has dedicated a conference to noncommunicable disease," Chris Viehbacher, chief govt of French drugmaker Sanofi told Reuters in an interview in ny. "The very first thing that had to be done is to induce far from this mind-set, this belief, this prejudice virtually if you prefer, that it's all around communicable disease."

The WHO said Sunday poorer countries might introduce measures to stop and treat several cases of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and lung disease for as very little as $1.20 per person per year.

One of the largest question marks is that the role of major tobacco and food firms, whose merchandise have already come back underneath hearth in western countries for taking part in a job in rising rates of obesity and respiratory disorders.

Dr. John Seffrin, chief govt of the yankee Cancer Society, told Reuters previous the meeting that the food trade and major drugmakers would possible cooperate.

"They can boost up to the plate and can be accountable company voters and follow up with practices to boost access to quality food and nutrition," he said.

"Tobacco is that the solely renegade trade. They place profits over peoples' lives. i do not anticipate they're going to do something positive."

Benchmark tests provide 1st hints of Windows eight performance

Microsoft released a freely accessible developer preview of its forthcoming Windows eight operating system last week. Our own Seth Rosenblatt features a video below giving an summary of the new OS. What we've not seen however is an summary of Windows 8's impact on general computing performance.

Microsoft has promised improved potency in Windows eight, due a minimum of partly to the new OS counting on fewer background operations sucking up memory and processing power. A scan at the method tab in Windows 8's new task manager bears this out. With Windows eight, we have a tendency to see twenty one operating system processes running. With Windows seven we have a tendency to count thirty one.
That slimming down alone ought to facilitate overall performance. If Microsoft has done additional to enhance Windows 8's operating speed during this developer build, we've not been told regarding it. We'll think about our benchmark tests connected that out.
Caveat time. grasp that the version of Windows eight we have a tendency to tested may be a 64-bit developer's preview build. Any check results below may okay look completely different when the ultimate version ships. take into account our performance comparison, just like the operating system preview itself, a glance at a piece in progress.
Our check bed may be a hand-built Intel Core i3-based desktop. Specs include: three.1GHz Intel Core i3 2105; 8GB one,333MHz DDR3 SDRAM; Intel DZ68D8 motherboard; 500GB, 7,200rpm Western Digital SATA II arduous drive; 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti graphics card (for 3D gaming tests)

We needed to check the Windows eight preview the maximum amount for its performance on check its compatibility with our current suite of benchmark applications, and sadly each 32-bit and 64-bit Photoshop CS5. crashed on every occasion we have a tendency to tried to load a picture file. that is unfortunate, since that check may be an honest indicator of memory performance.
Instead, our iTunes/Quicktime multimedia multitasking check was the sole case where we have a tendency to saw Windows eight build an evident speed impact over constant check in Windows seven. we have a tendency to welcome any speed improvement, and it shows that a minimum of during this build, Microsoft seems to be on the proper track for providing some noticeable application performance edges, a minimum of where memory utilization plays a job. We'll have an improved plan once/if we are able to check out 64-bit Photoshop CS5.

In addition to our CS5 difficulties, we have a tendency to were additionally unable to run 3DMark eleven, and that we additionally had problem with way Cry a pair of. The latter would not run our lower-resolution check, and therefore the scores between the operating systems on the higher-resolution check are wildly divergent. the rationale for our issues with each programs might be due to the operating system, the individual applications, the graphics card drivers, or a mixture.
For the games that did work, we have a tendency to were most impressed by Windows 8's handling of the initial Crysis. That game is notoriously arduous for PCs, partly as a result of it is a known system memory hog. We'd expect a Core i3-based desktop with 8GB of RAM and a good midrange graphics card to handle Crysis moderately well, however even at high resolution, the Windows 8-based testbed showed spectacular frame rate gains over the Windows 7-based system. Crysis isn't the foremost relevant title anymore, however the actual fact that this build of Windows eight makes straightforward work of this memory-chewing game suggests once more that Microsoft's new OS will indeed bring with it some noticeable edges to memory potency.
For newer games, do not take the way Cry a pair of scores seriously. we have a tendency to show them solely to demonstrate the disconnect with that game between operating systems. The Metro 2033 results are additional encouraging for gamers. we have a tendency to run that check in DirectX 11-mode with full detail and at the best resolutions we are able to muster on one show. we have a tendency to did not expect it to examine a lot of of a performance boost between operating systems, however a minimum of for this game, and with this OS build, Windows eight does not appear to possess lost a step on more-demanding 3D workloads.
It's not stunning that we have a tendency to had some issues with sure programs in Windows eight, and it's affordable to expect that almost all problems are resolved as Microsoft and application developers update their code. What we have a tendency to didn't essentially expect is that the noticeable performance boost between operating systems to applications and tasks that rely upon system memory.

Most of the point out Windows eight to this point has focused around its new Metro bit interface and its potential as a cross-platform operating system. We're additionally interested to examine how the mouse-driven interface develops over build iterations, as a result of immediately it feels too-heavily touch-centered. however even though Windows is undergoing an interface identity crisis, based mostly on what we have seen in our testing, computing traditionalists ought to anticipate to the streamlining Microsoft has achieved in Windows 8's memory utilization. Let's hope Microsoft will droop on to those performance gains when it ships final code.
