Pekalongan:Batik made of paper waste, as well as cement wrap, aluminum foil and plastic, has attracted foreign customers. In Pekalongan, Central Java, batik manufacturers sell thousands of meters of their recycled batik material per month.
“The customers largely return from Singapore, Australia and a few components of Europe,” batik producer Harris Riadi told Tempo yesterday.
Harris said it had been turning into tougher to supply raw materials for the recycled batik as a result of its increasingly popularity.
Harris said he usually is invited to attend exhibitions overseas, particularly in Europe. This July, he can participate in an exceedingly one-month exhibition held at Harrods in London. He was appointed by the national export development establishment to represent Indonesian batik producers. “This is that the fifth event within the past 5 months,” he added.
