Update, Dec. 14, 2012: On Friday morning, 27 people were killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. Among the fatalities are 20 children, six adults, and the shooter. Mother Jones is following the story closely with regular updates here.

 

It's perhaps too easy to forget how many times this has happened. The horrific mass murder at a movie theater in Colorado on July 20, another at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin on August 5, and another at a manufacturer in Minneapolis on September 27 are the latest in an epidemic of such gun violence over the last three decades. 

Since 1982, there have been at least 62 mass murders* carried out with firearms across the country, with the killings unfolding in 30 states from Massachusetts to Hawaii. Since these are not likely "crazed lone gunman" incidents as the corporate media has reported for decades, we ask what is really going on. Manchurian Candidates are not so easy to produce and release into society. Just ask Judyth Vary Baker.

So they must serve some useful purposes. They spread fear and obedience/acceptance of police state tactics. We accept the encroachment of Orwellian surveillance and just about anything in the name of "security." 

Such horrific events are also exploited as pretexts for curtailing rights, liberties, and dissenting viewpoints. The founders realized that an armed citizenry was harder to conquer than a disarmed one. But now it isn't the British to worry about so much as their representatives in our own government. 

How easy it will now be to ban ordinary citizens from owning or possessing guns, but federal agents and "police" of all kinds keep arming themselves to the teeth. We assume it is for our protection, but FEMA camps are not for outsiders. We are the intended targets, "we the people," as every Occupy activist soon realized.

Anyone trying to free the country is in the way of those who would subvert our liberties and institute draconian measures to assure compliance. Not only will our policemen uncles but also our soldier brothers and sisters will surely turn their guns on us; it's in their training! 

• (They are almost all white males committing these mass murders, so the old shorthand "Beware of strangers" doesn't work to keep us falsely feeling safe anymore. But we can't call it racial if we're the race being named. Xenophobia says it's other, always "other.")
• Look how everyone now accepts "school lockdowns," a prison term used to break and abuse inmates in the name of security, without question. Accepts? They now demand it in the name of "security."
• Remember the founder who said something like, Those willing to give up liberty for security deserve neither and will lose both? (It was good ol' boy Ben Franklin, whose name in Israel could be translated as "Son of Frankenstein")

It is the point of their training: Practice on foreign enemies then search and destroy the "enemy within" whoever that may be. Who is it? Is it you? Is it me? We can't trust anyone! Run, hide, turn in your neighbor! Crawl and beg for your life. How could the population not stand up to this transparent set up.

Of course, we never believe anything bad about our government. We, however, have no trouble seeing the bad in other governments. So one can look in the mirror by seeing the same thing happening in China. On the same day as the Newtown shooting, a crazed man in China walked into a school (again) to slaughter children.

"Let's blame guns"? If guns were to blame, and they almost are, we should ban guns, ALL guns. But guns aren't going anywhere. There are 300,000,000 (three hundred million) in this country, a gun for everyone but the infants. And these crimes send sales soaring. What about when they are confiscated by those with the guns, the "security" forces? Then will we be safe from their enforcement schemes

(Reuters) "For too long, the people of this [Burmese] state, including ethnic Rakhine, have faced crushing poverty and persecution. But there's no excuse for violence against innocent people," Obama told a packed audience for a speech at Yangon University.

Thein Sein, in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon last week, promised to tackle the root causes of the problem, and Obama said he welcomed "the government's commitment to address the issues of injustice, and accountability, and humanitarian access and citizenship."

(Original post in Burmese, Niknayman) I am a Burmese Army engineer from Division 905. Our captain, Ye Win Aung, from my division is forcing everyone in our division to recruit new soldiers. If we are not successful in our recruitment, he threatens to re-deploy us from well-paid positions at the base camp to other places. On top of that, he also demands that we must recruit at least one new soldier per month. We have also been given strict orders to recruit even underage kids, beggars, or homeless people by either offering them money or capturing them by force. Hence, everyone in the division is feeling miserable about having to carry out such orders. Army personnel close to obtaining pensions are especially worried that they might be punished if they do not carry out the orders.

Our World

It's clear which world we got. Or is it? It seems we have both. We are like donkeys pulled along by a carrot dangling from a stick. And if we do not fall for the trick, we get hit by the stick.
  

The economy collapses because of banking and housing "crises." (What crisis? It's banksters stealing homes in a coup and a collapse based on bad loans). But that was planned. Anyone who did not greedily go in for an unrepayable loan voluntarily had new terms inserted by deception or simply suffered as the market sank. One did not have to do anyting to get burned.
  

It was no accident. This was a great money-making scheme that has worked just as planned. Bankers are richer with interest-free government loans to bail them out as well as the houses they get to foreclose on.
  

Why do things like this happen to us?
  

There's an interesting answer, even more interesting than bank plots and high finance conspiracies. We have things the way they are because of who we are. Who are we?
  

 
Ordinary Worldlings

Most of us are "uninstructed worldlings" (puthujjanas, literally "one of the many folk"), that is, ordinary unenlightened persons. What does it mean?
  

A puthujjana is any layperson or monastic who still possesses all ten fetters (samyojana) binding one to the ceaseless Round of Rebirths (samsara). Such a person has not yet reached any of the stages of enlightenment (ariya-puggala).
  

"Who is neither freed from the three fetters [personality-belief, sceptical doubt, attachment mere rules and rituals (as a means of gaining enlightenment], nor is on the way to shaking free of these three, such a being is called a worldling" (Pug. 9).
  

According to the commentary to MN 9 (Sutra 9 of the Middle Length Discourses), a "worldling" may be:

• (1) one outside (a non-Buddhist) who, if believing in moral causation, may be said to have right view at least to that extent, but has no "knowledge conforming to the [Four Ennobling] Truths," as has
• (2) the "worldling inside the Buddha's Dispensation."

A worlding who professes to be a "Buddhist" may either be a "blind worldling" (andha-puggala) who has neither knowledge of, nor interest in, the fundamental teachings (the Four Noble Truths, the Five Aggregates of Clinging, etc.) or one is a "noble worldling" (kalyāna-puggala), who has such knowledge and earnestly strives to understand and practice the Teaching.

In "Show Me Your Papers, Comrade" we pointed out how the US was more and more becoming a police state.

  

A police state is all about authoritarian control -- where we go, what we do, whom we associate with, what is said, and ultimately what we think.
  
The worst offense in Nineteen Eighty-Four's dystopia was "thought crime." If one even seems to be thinking a radical thought, one is hauled into the Ministry of Love and violently and painfully re-educated, sometimes to death.

   

If the Bush Family wants Obama, should we?

Sure, why should people who live in the "Land of the Free" (that's what we Americans are told is the other name of our country) not be asked for papers and passports to step over into Canada or Mexico? But now there are border checks at every state line. There are "sobriety" checks whenever police feel like it. There are wanton "stop and frisk" policy violation, but no one cares if most of the people complaining are black and brown.

   

Now the Supreme Court has let stand a small but significant portion of Arizona's draconian anti-undesirable statutes. The "Show Me Your Papers, Ese" portion targets Latinos throughout Arizona and copycat states.
   
The police are merely asking a question, we are told. The fact is they are being put in a position to lie while engaging in racial profiling, stopping, frisking, and detaining those the law (blind Lady Justice) presumes to be innocent. They might be guilty of something. Then police look for that something, anything, in violation of every freedom we once took for granted.
  
But it's not happening to us (yet), so what do we care?

  

Thank you, Obama. You have made the Bush Dynasty and your cousin Dick Cheney very proud to have voted for an ostensibly black president.

The allowance is rife for police abuse and civil rights violations.
