Tour details (groundzeromedia.org)
Judyth Vary Baker, author of Me & Lee: How I Came to Know, Love & Lose Lee Harvey Oswald, will appear in person and discuss her book. Baker's explosive story brings new insight to the role of Lee Harvey Oswald in the JFK assassination. She is a living witness to events that changed America. She knew Lee Harvey Oswald intimately as well as other key players in the fateful November, 1963 events.

The Beauty and Patsy for the MIC (veteranstoday.com)
Former Governor Jesse Ventura calls Baker's book "stunning" and ranked it among his six favorite conspiracy reads. New York Times best-selling author Jim Marrs, author of Crossfire: The Plot That Killed Kennedy, recommends "the impassioned, unflinching voice of Judyth Vary Baker" to hear what our government will not tell us.

In 1963, Ms. Baker attended Univ. of Florida and was involved in advanced cancer research involving radiation and human melanoma cells, focused on evaluating the effects of the cancerous SV-40 virus contained in early polio vaccines.

In the Spring of 1963, Baker was contacted by Dr. Alton Ochsner, former President of the American Cancer Society and founder of the Ochsner Medical Clinic, to work on a summer project in New Orleans involving the transference of cancer via vaccine and its possible cure. During the course of this internship, Ms. Baker meets Lee Harvey Oswald, who becomes her constant companion, and
eventually, her lover.

Oswald is also associated with the Oschner project. The cancer research Ms. Baker is working on, she soon learns, is tied to efforts to kill Cuba's President Fidel Castro, possibly by a tainted cancer-inducing vaccine. Dr. Oschner is a supporter of anti-Communist activities.

Although Ms. Baker eventually returns to Florida, she remained in phone contact with Lee Oswald until Nov. 20, 1963, just two days before the JFK assassination. Her book, Me and Lee, recounts the events of 1963 and the words of her final conversation with Oswald.

During her US tour, Ms. Baker will be speaking at the Roxy Theater in San Francisco on Nov. 22, the 49th anniversary of the JFK assassination, which falls on Thanksgiving this year. She appears in North Hollywood on Nov. 26, and at the LA PRESS CLUB on Nov. 27 at 10:30 am. Details: Kris Millegan publisher@ (800) 556-2012

Beauty: Sun protection without toxic Sunscreen

Amber Dorrian, Yogi Seven, Ashley Wells, Wisdom Quarterly
Diet, water, yoga, mood, and melanin all protect the skin (Yoga Coop/Wisdom Quarterly).

Lauren Gott writes in response to Sunscreen is toxic! Protect skin with food: What do you recommend for redheads? I am practically a raw foodist (uber healthy), and I just cannot get away without using sunscreen, as well as, covering up with clothing, hats, etc. I use Devita sunscreen from Whole Foods.

The reason the skin burns is not because of the Sun. It burns as a result of an interaction between the Sun and bodily acidity. This used to be true, but the Sun we have today is not the Sun we once knew.

It used to be enough to alkalize the body; that would keep us from burning. NOTE: alkalizing the stomach is not the same as alkalizing the body.

Use PH test strips in the morning on saliva and urine to check how alkaline the body is. The stomach needs to be acidic when eating. It is a lack of stomach acidity that leads to poor digestion. Poor digestion is very acidifying.

Sun worshiping ages skin (shareitfitness)
What is mistakenly called "acid stomach" is remedied by proper food combining (the opposite of Food Complementing), taking digestive enzymes not alkalizing agents (mineral tablets like Alka-Seltzer or Tums).

The protective ozone layer we once enjoyed between us and the Sun has been attenuated and in some spots completely destroyed. Many more harmful rays are coming through. So it takes more to protect ourselves from the harmful rays of the skin.
(helpfulhealthtips.com)
Everything the sunscreen industry warns about why we need protection is true. But sunscreen does NOT offer the protection we are led to assume. It harms via endocrine disruption, xenoestrogen exposure, and toxic load. Used as directed, one cannot go stand in the Sun. That is not even the claim it makes; yet, that is how we treat it. The ingredients are extremely toxic, carcinogenic, free radical producing, prematurely aging, misleading, and best avoided.

For example, nano particle size minerals seep through the skin and do unknown harm. Other ingredients react to sunlight and age us prematurely. Titanium dioxide, a major ingredient in "screens" and "blocks," reacts to sunlight creating destructive free radicals. These astonishing facts are no longer secret. The SPF number is not regulated or overseen by any agency. It is more of a ballpark figure.

What to do instead?
Want flawless beauty? Learn photo retouching.
1. FEED THE SKIN. Make your own sunscreen creams. Use fresh aloe, organic cucumber, hemp oil, genuine Vitamin E, chia seeds. Blend. Keep in glass. Refrigerate. It is super cooling and healthy for the skin. Add color with beta carotene (e.g., carrot juice). Or try prickly pear and raw nopal gel. Real cocoa butter (preferably raw and available at health food stores), shea butter, or unrefined avocado oil are also good to keep moisture in and the skin smooth. Melt cocoa and shea before blending by holding them close to the body. Avoid chlorine, which is aging and drying; use a shower filter.

2. COVER UP. Stay out of direct sunlight, particularly at midday when rays are striking directly. This means wearing simple protection: wide brimmed hats, light colors which are more reflective (and even when sheer tend to provide more "SPF" than toxic ointments).

3. CHILL. Stay relaxed. Even a great diet will have a tough time countering the effects of anger, envy, resentment, distress, worry, and other acidifying conditions. Drink cooling drinks, which means NO added sugar. Sweeten with green stevia or real fruit. There is as much sugar in a glass of processed orange juice as a soda. Eat oranges instead. Eat whole berries of all kinds, fresh or frozen. Drink a gallon of water a day, preferably distilled, to stay hydrated and cleanse toxins. Dr. Leonard Coldwell recommends adding a teaspoon of pink Himalayan salt to remineralize it. Avoid plastic and aluminum containers. Glass and metal are safe.

4. UNTAN. Do not tan. There is generally enough Sun damage occurring to ever go seek it out  in a machine or on the beach. This has become true even in northern climes. The East Coast of the United States gets plenty of Sun earlier in spring and throughout the summer. Due to climate chaos warming is moving up, and plants and animals are slowly migrating north.

5. GO GREEN. Eat as many greens as possible. Eat sea vegetables. Every meal should have something green. Food Combining is eating the right foods together. What makes them "right" is that they are able to be digested in the presence of each other. (Food Complementing is completely different and should NOT be practiced. It is the mistaken notion that to make a complete protein one has to eat beans and rice, or nuts and grains, together. These foods cannot be digested together, and one ends up with poor digestion. Eat these foods separately or with greens. Eat fruits alone. Allow at least an hour between foods. Do not drink water or anything alkalizing when eating food. The stomach needs to be strongly acidic. Take digestive enzymes. Make sure the digestive tract has healthy flora (probiotics). Get tested for heavy metal toxins, and chelate them out. Green leafy vegetables can be eaten with everything without disrupting digestion. Avoid acidifying foods, which as a rule of thumb refers to anything white or processed. Real food in its unprocessed state has colors. Although hard and inconvenient for Americans, avoid all animal products (dairy, chemically treated innards such as hot dogs and baloney, eggs, and bloodied carcasses). Take Vitamin D supplements, a hormone we need that could become deficient.

Lauren,
Wisdom Quarterly reader Lauren Gott
You're on the right track. Make sure you make the most of your raw food diet. (Avoid flax seed!) We start craving acidic and fermented foods and overdo protein, which becomes ammonia in the body and leaches out minerals like calcium and potassium and magnesium. Most raw foodists eat too many "processed" foods. Eat close to the Earth, actual raw food not just conveniently packaged chips and what not. There are three things that destroy enzymes, which are the main benefit of raw foods: heat, air, and light. Most raw foodists only concern themselves with heat. And the biggest piece of advice? Use sunscreen that you make yourself. The unbelievable truth is, you shouldn't put anything on your skin that you wouldn't put in your mouth. The skin absorbs straight into the bloodstream better than the digestive tract. Devita is a great company, but would you eat it? Alcohols, nano particles, stearates, stearic acids, PABA, propyl parabens, and other preservatives do greater harm than we are aware. It's radical advice. But redheads are usually radical, fashion forward types who need to do more to retain that delicate and dazzling beauty.

Christopher Hitchens on the Why the Universe Doesn't Care About You.

Christopher Hitchens is a thorn to some and a champion to others, but to the cosmos he's nothing. The famous (or infamous, depending on your beliefs on religion) British Atheist is known for being up for a good fight; he now has a fight that is even daunting to his larger than life personality. That fight is against cancer but his acerbic wit is still, thankfully intact. In addition, his daunting challenge hasn't shaken his acceptance that none of us have guarantees in this life, which has prevented him from using too much of his precious days left to ask, "Why me?" His response to that question is almost koan material, which is ironic for not only a committed Atheist but a passionate advocate against religion altogether. To the dumb question “Why me?” the cosmos barely bothers to return the reply: Why not?

It's not an easy thing to admit because it feels like we're losing control over our life. However, this life was never "ours" to begin with, which I think it partly why so many people go through the "5 stages of grief" when facing the exacting, unbending and non-discriminating bringer of death (but also other crises in our lives). It is said that the ego-driven mind goes through 5 stages of grief before finally accepting the inevitable. The stages are as follows: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and finally Acceptance. Interestingly these stages seem to mirror the Buddhist process of accepting the reality of suffering and the impermanence of all phenomena. It's a thought that itches my brain with wondering, "Do awakened people such as the Dalai Lama and Thich Nhat Hanh go through such a process when faced with death?" The answer chimes clearly like a temple bell calling all to meditation, "No, because if one hasn't accepted the unwavering power of impermanence and the delusion of our ego; how can one be fully awakened?" It makes me wonder too if most Buddhists are better prepared for death than others?

The Buddhist teaching that always comes to mind when I meditate and contemplate about the impermance of life comes from the famous and beautiful Diamond Sutra:

The Buddha asked, “Subhuti, if a man had a body as huge as a mountain, would he be a great man?” “No, Lord. Because “a great man” is only words, and being a great man is an illusion, created by the belief in ego.”

"So listen to this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream,
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream. --
So should you understand the world of the ego.”

James: And so it is with all things too; not just death. The sooner we accept that our ties to this body, personality, accomplishments and pleasures aren't anchored in rock after all but sand slipping through the fingers of time, is the sooner we overcome suffering to bloom like a lotus in the bright, clear, sky of radical acceptance. Letting go is when we are the most free like a rock climber floats suspended in the mid-air after letting go of a rock wall. If you've ever been rock climbing and been stuck on the rock wall out of fear of falling you cling to what little grip you have as if your life depended upon it. You have to face your deluded mind and make it let go of the fear of falling to free oneself from the panic and fear that is keeping you stuck in an unstable and uncomfortable state.

Just as with life, it is terrifying to let go of all that we know but that rock we are clinging to is not giving us much comfort, which makes us cling to it tighter. Yet whether our mind lets go of trying to control life or not; sooner or later it will have to let go. Christopher Hitchens has let go and is accepting the possibility of death. It must be said, however, that some cancer survivors have said that cancer was the best thing that happened to them. They state that it freed them from a lot of emotional baggage and suffering that was preventing true peace and happiness from blossoming in their life previously. Everything happens for a reason--so let go. You won't regret it because that letting go might just allow you to fly high into the peaceful heavens of awakening.

Cancer, Meat and Vegetarianism. Also, We are Our Own Judges in Buddhism.

Although the initiated cells are not considered to be reversible, the cells growing through the promotion stage are usually considered to be reversible, a very exciting concept. This is the stage that especially responds to nutritional factors. For example, the nutrients from animal based foods, especially the protein, promote the development of the cancer whereas the nutrients from plant-based foods, especially the antioxidants, reverse the promotion stage. This is a very promising observation because cancer proceeds forward or backward as a function of the balance of promoting and anti-promoting factors found in the diet, thus consuming anti-promoting plant-based foods tend to keep the cancer from going forward, perhaps even reversing the promotion. consequences.
James: In Buddhism vegetarianism isn't a requirement partly because not everyone lives in an area where vegetables are abundant such as in Tibet. That said, many practitioners are indeed vegetarians especially in the west. I have found that the main reason for doing so is often out of compassion for animals. This is in part because Buddhism teaches that we are all interconnected and interdependent, which includes animals of course. This means that it is very possible that the cow we would eat might have been our mother in a past life. That realization was a big reason I finally made the switch to a vegetarian diet awhile back. I just couldn't look at a plate of meat ever again in the same way once I heard that.

The second reason I most commonly hear for a vegetarian diet is out of health concerns and this report backs that up even more. Just something to think about but no one should commit to something that they aren't ready to do or think is necessary especially out of guilt, which is a big reason I like Buddhism. There aren't many strict "rules" to live by in Buddhism and using guilt as a tactic to get people to do what you want is very much frowned upon from what I have studied. It's a very accepting religion for the most part. It accepts you where ever you are in life as it understands and teaches we are all in different places due to different karmic needs. The Dharma allows people to practice on various levels of commitment and experience, which I found refreshing when I really started looking into Buddhism.

There isn't much need for leaders to "punish" followers as Buddhism doesn't believe in a "God" or a Savior. There is no such thing as "sin" as understood in the Judeo-Christian sense. That is left up to our karma so that in essence we will be our own judges of how well (or how not so well) we lived our lives. It's like an accurate, non-feeling, non-biased computer giving us a read out of how well we accomplished a task. It is void of emotional judgments and simply renders data from the information that was input from outside experiments (Karma--or how we lived our lives. The cause and effect of our past actions whether they were helpful or not to both us and others).

Usually when an issue of reform needs to be addressed in Buddhism it is due to the practitioner seeking out an experienced teacher on their own for advise and advisement on over-coming a problem or obstacle. Outside monasteries it is nearly unheard of from my understanding of monks chastising people for their actions other than to give them general advice in a Dharma discourse on how to live a happy life free of less suffering. Usually this is delivered to many people and individuals in the audience decide if what was said was applicable to them or not and if so how they go about changing is up to them.

However, even in stricter monasteries disobeying rules is done in a very compassionate and open manner by the community of monks so that there is less chance of personal vindictiveness being apart of it. Some might find rebirth a tiresome notion of having to go around and around until they realize total oneness but I find it compassionate. It allows us to make mistakes and learn from them through long experience over incalculable lifetimes rather than saying you only have one life to "get it right."

Cancer Killer Found in the Ocean.

November 1, 2007 — Biomedicine scientists identified and sequenced the genes of a bacteria calledI Salinispora tropica. (James: If you go to the link you'll find a video about this story). It produces anti-cancer compounds and can be found in ocean sediments off the Bahamas. A product called salinosporamide A has shown promise treating a bone marrow cancer called multiple myeloma, as well as solid tumors. It's estimated that over 1.4 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year, and for more than 500,000 it will be fatal. But now, scientists have found a new weapon against it. The ocean!

You run in it ... play in it ... splash in it ... but what’s found at the bottom of it can kill cancer! The bacterium was discovered in 1991, but just recently researchers at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography unlocked the genomic sequence, revealing this bacteria's cancer fighting potential. "That’s how new drugs are discovered. We really have to go out there and grow bacteria, look at the genomes," Dr. Moore said. First discovered in 1991 in shallow ocean sediment off the Bahamas, it took several years to successfully sequence Salinispora’s genome, revealing that this mud-dwelling bacteria produces natural antibiotics and anti-cancer products.

James: We already know that trees and plants are the world's lungs and the oceans produce the rain that grows our foods and acts as a global thermostat but that is just the beginning of nature's bounty (By the way, An estimated 80% of all life on earth is found under the ocean surface and the oceans contain 99% of the living space on the planet. Less than 10% of that space has been explored by humans). There are so many medicines that stem from nature and yet we keep destroying the environment. Who knows how many cures for diseases or very effective drugs might have been found in the vast tracts of rain forest chopped down all over the world. There might be a cure for AIDS right now lying deep in the Amazon but we still have the outdated, neanderthal thinking that we must conquer nature and exploit it rather than live in harmony with it.

We need to listen to the shamans and explore their pharmacies (nature) with them and learn from them instead of ignoring them and deriding their time tested expertise. Some of the healthiest people I have met were villagers living in Africa using mostly natural medicines. I'm not advocating, however, that people abandon pharmaceuticals altogether, especially when dealing with a severe mental illness or other crippling diseases. I do think though that we should take natural remedies more seriously and explore our forests instead of clear cut them.

Healing Our Environment and Ourselves.

In one sitting meditation, when I focused my attention on my heart--breathing in, I am aware of my heart, breathing out, I smile to my heart--suddenly I realized that this is not the only heart that I have. I have many other hearts. Suppose that I look at the sun in the sky. I know that it is also another heart of mine. If this heart failed I would die right away. But if the other heart, the sun, explodes or stops functioning as the sun, I would also die right away.

~Thich Nhat Hanh, The Mindfulness Bell, winter/spring issue 47, 2008.

James: Another heart is our planet Earth, it is literally alive and very much like our own bodies. For example, most of our planet consists of water just like the human body. Deep inside the Earth a constant movement of hot liquid rich in iron keeps the planet alive much like our blood (also rich in iron) keeps us in health. If this plasma like layer where to cool and harden then life would eventually cease, not unlike too much blood loss causes the heart to stop.

The Earth's ozone and magnetic field act as shields that protect life here from harmful radiation emitted from the sun. Radiation is important and helpful in some respects but in small doses just like some bacteria is helpful in our bodies but again in small doses. If too much bacteria grows within our body then our white blood cells are stimulated to neutralize the dangerous levels of bacteria to return our body back to a stable, balanced environment. In that regard the Earth's atmosphere acts as those white blood cells to maintain the right balance to enable life to flourish on this planet.

So when seen through mindful openness an intricate interconnection unfolds within this Universe from the tiniest molecules to the largest stars until it can no longer be described and becomes parinirvana which is beyond our limiting labels, concepts and knowledge.

But let's return back to the present moment as I look out the window and gaze upon the gentle breeze dancing through the branches of the mock pear tree out front. That tree is apart of me as it relies upon the same sun to grow as I do, therefore if I do not care for that tree and millions like it then I will in turn die off. Trees thrive off of the carbon dioxide that we emit from breathing oxygen which is in turn partially created by those very trees and other plants. This leads to recycling.

We humans have not existed in harmony with the other organisms that share this planet with us, we have not been good neighbors over time. We have become in many ways a parasite or a cancer on the Earth because we have taken so much and given so little back to the circle of life that is our environment. Yet all is not lost, we can heal the scars that we have inflicted and return our lovely celestial body back to a more balanced state of being by recycling and using renewable energy sources.

In our city we have a recycling program that we participate in. We save our plastic bottles and recyclable metal and plastic containers in one bin and all our newspapers and paperboard waste such as old pasta boxes go in another bin. Then once a week a truck comes along and picks it all up to be sorted through at the recycling factory who then sell the metals and paper back to companies to make more metal and plastic containers and paper products and the cycle continues. Every time I put those bins on the curb I smile in peace knowing that I am giving back to my fellow organisms that share this planet with me.

The same goes with renewable energy, we harness the abundant clean energy available to us in using solar power, wind power, water, geothermal and others to meet our needs without harming the very body (Earth) that we are apart of. Through these measures we begin to cease being the separate, destructive cancer and return to being just another variation of being on a vast and beautiful heavenly body.

It is true that we can not prevent the eventually destruction of Earth but we do not want to have the karma of speeding up that process by our less than skillful actions. Life ebbs and flows of it's own accord and it is not our right to take life away from any living being and that includes our living Earth.

The Deer Park Monastery in the Zen tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh threw the switch that makes their property environmentally friendly. They are now completely off the grid, what a great example for the rest of us!!
