A Shower of Meteors in 2012 (video)

/JungleJoel.com; NASA, NPR (SCPR.org), Wisdom Quarterly
The Perseid meteor shower will be putting on an extraordinary show from Sunday to Tuesday (Aug. 11, 12, and 13). Venus, Jupiter, and Luna (our accompanying moon) will be there, too.

The "shooting star"-studded Perseid meteor shower is expected to wow earthlings on Saturday night with hundreds of ancient, vaporized, dust-specks streaking [through] the atmosphere at more than 100,000 miles per hour. Available to anyone with a clear, dark sky, the only thing keeping you from the show is rampant air and light pollution, and whatever else you may be doing at the time. This event is ideal star-gazing for the lazy. The Perseids, peaking late Saturday Aug. 11/early Sunday Aug. 12, provide the perfect opportunity to take in heavenly bodies sans telescope or fancy equipment. Seeing as much sky as possible is the goal, and laying down to look up is encouraged. The Perseids are a fan favorite among celestial groupies, a popularity Senior Editor of Astronomy magazine, Michael E. Bakich, attributes to the annual spectacle's four unique elements: More

Zen Garden School (cartoon)

What is Zen?
"Zen" is a way of saying "fully collected attention, fully absorbed mind," a natural state sometimes referred to beginner's mind.

Zen is a Buddhist school, Japan's version of the Chinese Ch'an (absorbed concentration) movement.

This Buddhist school came from ancient India, where the practice is known as dhyana, in Pali jhana, in Vietnamese thien, and so on. In America, in modern English, it seems to mean "cool, calm effortlessness."

What is the Zen in the Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance?
It is confounding the Tao, "going with the flow," the way, the yin and yang of cyclical existence -- in Taoism as if it were Buddhism. Taoism so mixed with Buddhism, each influencing each other and mixing like water and milk, that it is not far from some aspects of the Dharma. But they are not actually the same at the core, just as cultural interpretations.

What does it mean to "meditate"?
It means to cultivate something, to develop something, to bring something into being (bhavana). One brings virtue, concentration, and insight into being with balanced effort.

Like a revolving yin and yang circle, one balances effort and ease, strain and laxity, doing and being done. Many swear that when "it" (meditation) happens, they didn't do it. It did itself. It was done to them. It was effortless -- so long as one does not count all the "effort" of making time to sit and persisting in cultivating serenity and single-pointed attention.

This is "thoughtless" awareness, for although one is fully aware of one's surroundings and one's object of meditative attention, it is not "thinking about" or evaluating or judging or revolving in one's mind (its literal English definition, which is more appropriate in the preparatory cultivation of insight translated as contemplation).

What are those "Zen Garden" sandboxes about?
It is part of Japan's artistic tradition turning the mundane and sparse into reflections of art and order.

Nancy Pelosi saw ghosts in White House

Ghosts are real on a different (invisible energetic) material frequency (angelsghosts.com)

Representative Nancy Pelosi
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Democrat, CA) told a recent gathering of the Women’s Political Committee that the spirits of suffragists Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Alice Paul spoke to her at the White House.

"Look up."
Pelosi said she heard them say: “At last we have a seat at the table.”

A video recently posted on YouTube shows Pelosi speaking in May describing her first meeting with President [G.W.] Bush in the White House after becoming part of the Democratic House leadership.

In the video Pelosi says, “He’s (Bush) saying something to the effect of we’re so glad to welcome you here, congratulations, and I know you’ll probably have some different things to say about what is going on -- which is correct. But, as he was saying this, he was fading and this other thing was happening to me.”

Leader of the Lesser of Two Evils party (AAL)
“My chair was getting crowded in,” claims Pelosi. “I swear this happened! Never happened before, it never happened since.”

“My chair was getting crowded in and I couldn’t figure out what it was, it was like this,” she said.

“And then I realized Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Alice Paul, Sojourner Truth, you name it. They were all in that chair,” said Pelosi. “They were, more than I named, and I could hear them say: 'At last we have a seat at the table.' And then they were gone.” More

Pursuing Joy with Gratitude (video)

Wisdom Quarterly

Did the Buddha ever say, "You have no cause for anything but gratitude and joy"? Not that we know of, but he could have. It is certainly in line with the Dharma. A grateful heart/mind is aligned with reality, and joy is the radiant result.

How does one reach a state of meditative gratitude and bliss? George Quant, who for many years worked with Transcendental Meditation has now developed an even easier set of techniques he calls IQM ("Integrated Quantum Meditation"). His pedigree is remarkable, assuming he is not exaggerating and making more of how he came to develop it through progressive Western medical institutions not generally known for embracing Eastern spiritual wisdom.

George Quant begins at Minute 29:20

What is even more remarkable is that all Western teachers simply echo the words of Buddhist meditation masters when they suggest that "meditation" is not something one does. It is something one allows, something that happens, something one is experienced by -- if only we will persist on our non-quest to escape to reality. The quest is to find oneself, to find the Truth, to find happiness and freedom for all.
