Nazi Space Buddha and quotes are fake

Seven Dharmachari, Ashley Wells, Amber Dorrian, Wisdom Quarterly
Fake New Agey "Buddha quotes" very quickly become popular (fakebuddhaquotes.com)

A famous fake Buddha quote (H-K-D)
Sad news on the Buddhist front -- more fake Buddha quotes. But "fake" cuts both ways: The "Nazi Space Buddha" or Iron Man statue we reported on earlier this month turns out to be fake. And strangely some fake Buddha quotes are very good, so good they should have been said by someone, maybe Taoists. But they certainly weren't said by the historical Shakyamuni Buddha. The sincere photographer H. Kopp Delaney is doing a great deal to promote 108 authentic and inauthentic "Buddha quotes" thus littering the Web with many great fakes.

Nazis' meteorite Buddha fake
Stephanie Pappas (LiveScience.com, Oct. 24, 2012) with WQ editorial commentary
Iron Man with swastika (Stuttgart U./Elmar Buchner)
A supposed Buddhist statue allegedly carved from a meteorite 1,000 years ago may not be as ancient as suspected, according to a Buddhism expert who argues that the statue may be a 20th-century fake.

The criticisms don't target the material the statue is carved from, which is an iron- and nickel-rich meteorite from the Siberia-Mongolia border.

But outside experts are questioning the statue's origins.

Achim Bayer, a Buddhism expert at Dongguk University in South Korea, argues in a new report that the Buddha statue [which is not a statue of the Buddha but of a purported Buddhist "deity" from space -- like Sakka, who is King of Kings (deva-maha-rajas) and Lord of Lords (of the Spaceport of the Thirty-Three or Tavatimsa-deva-rajas), or the Sky-King Vessavana, a maha-raja of one quadrant of the sky/space visible from Earth] has obvious "pseudo-Tibetan features," marking it as a European reproduction likely made between 1910 and 1970.

[Nazis loved searching for UFO artifacts and time-travel technology, abandoned bases and gold mines, advanced Vril technology. They also sought social remnants of "Aryan" -- a much maligned Buddhist, Hindu, Jain term that rather than racial "purity" refers to spiritual nobility -- cultures around the world, particularly in Antarctica, where Nazis set up a new country called New Swabia, and Tibet, where official Nazi emissaries -- inspired by the spiritual writings of Russian psychic Madame Blavatsky and American Theosophists as well as other-worldly beings -- befriended Vajrayana Buddhists. Tibetans had set up a Vatican-style church-state with a pope-like figure who served as their temporal-spiritual dictator, a post now occupied by the beloved fourteenth man to fill that post, Tenzin Gyatso, the current Dalai Lama.]

Swastikas appear on statues (GT)
Among these features are European-like shoes that come to the ankles rather than boots; trousers instead of robes; tube-shaped sleeves unlike those seen on traditional Tibetan or Mongolian garb; a full beard, which is not seen on Tibetan and Mongolian deity sculptures; an unusual single earring; and a cape that resembles one worn by Romans rather than ancient Tibetan deities.

MAPS is a leading journal
In their original paper published in the journal Meteoritics & Planetary Science, Stuttgart University researcher Elmar Bucher and colleagues reported that the Buddha statue first came to Germany after a 1938-1939 Tibet expedition by zoologist and ethnologist Ernst Schäfer, who was sent to the region by the Nazi party to find the origin of Aryan language and culture. The statue then passed into the hands of a private owner. More

But I'M not being SPIED on, right? (audio)

Wisdom Quarterly; Sonali Kolhatkar, UprisingRadio.org (Oct. 25, 2012, KPFK.org)
Kilroy is watching: "fusion centers" gather info to facilitate homeland spying (American Dad).

Hostess Sonali Kolhatkar (So-nah-lee Coal-hat-car) invites the Executive Director of the Bill of Rights Defense Committee (bordc.org) Shahid Buttar to discuss privacy in America.

While dwindling civil liberties were a serious issue during the tenure of Pres. G.W. Bush [now in his third term in the guise of B.S. Obama, who has done more to solidify Bush’s draconian gains than Dick Cheney ever could have].

"We only burn villages to save them."
The past three terms saw the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the passage of the USA PATRIOT Act. Now there is little public discourse about ongoing infringements on the rights we once took for granted.

The Obama administration has largely continued and, in some arenas, expanded on Bush-era intrusions into American lives via warrantless wiretapping and other secret initiatives of the National Security Agency (NSA) and through “fusion centers” scattered throughout the country.
Social media aids and abets spying by design.
The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations recently issued a scathing report on fusion centers saying that, while the Department of Homeland Security has spent billions of dollars on them, the centers have actually produced “useless, irrelevant, or inappropriate intelligence reporting.”

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano called these fusion centers “one of the centerpieces” of her department’s counter-terrorism efforts.

Constitutional and privacy advocates have added their concerns to those of the Senate Panel, asserting that fusion centers violate everyone’s privacy.

Many city governments also think so: The Berkeley City Council recently voted to limit their local police department’s collaboration with a fusion center. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has been accused of violating civil liberties by the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition for feeding reports into a local fusion center. More

Inside the real NSA? Its vast underground facilities are never shown to public (Reuters).

NSA is spying on texts, emails, calls (video)

DemocracyNow.org (Apr. 20, 2012); Wisdom Quarterly

"Brain-whatting?" "Never mind, go to sleep."
() National Security Agency (NSA) whistleblower William Binney drops a bombshell: Domestic surveillance has become more expansive under Pres. Obama than Pres. Bush.

He estimates that the NSA has assembled 20 trillion "transactions" -- phone calls, emails, and many other forms of data such as texts -- produced by ordinary law-abiding Americans.

"We need more money like the NSA gets."
This includes copies of almost all of the emails sent and received from most people living in the United States.

Binney talks about Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act and challenges NSA Director Keith Alexander's assertion that the NSA is not intercepting information about U.S. citizens.

ZEN: Wash your bowl (comics)

Wisdom Quarterly, Koan Study Group (PasaDharma.org), The Book of Equanimity
A slice of wisdom from Zen Comics by Ionna Salajan (via voiceofhappiness)

PREFACE TO THE ASSEMBLY
When food comes, fill the mouth.
When sleep comes, close the eyes.
When washing the face, rub the nose.
When taking off straw sandals, touch the feet.
At such times, if you miss the point, take a light and search hard in the depths of the night.
How will you meet this?

MAIN CASE
Attention!
A monk pleaded with Joshu, "Your student has just entered the monastery. Please, master, instruct me."
Joshu asked, "Did you finish your rice gruel?"
The monk replied, "I have finished eating."
Joshu remarked, "Then wash your bowl."

APPRECIATORY VERSE
When the gruel's finished, have him wash the bowl.
Suddenly the mind-ground naturally meets itself.
Right then the monastery's guest is replete.
Tell me: Is any enlightenment in there or not?

Cryptic commentary
Yogi Seven, Roshi Albrizze, Mara Shaeffer, Wisdom Quarterly
Zazen is "just sitting." But mindfulness and clear comprehension (sati-sampajanna) extends to all activities. Just breath, just eat... Not thinking, one is aware. There is no intermediate thought about it, no filtering or distorting. One is aware just of what is. BE HERE NOW. This is it. This is life. This is worth living. What to do? Be. Where to do it? Here. When? Now. Sitting goes to absorption with singleminded concentration (Sanskrit dhyana, Pali jhana, Japanese zen). Therefore, when one is tired, sleep. When one is hungry, eat. (And while eating, just eat). Then wash your bowl. Zen stages of stillness are ecstatic meditative experiences. But to say so destroys the student by setting up expectations. To say that nothing ever happens other than sitting destroys the teacher: Who needs a guru or "Zen Master" if nothing will ever happen? Nevertheless, "After the ecstasy, the laundry." So when you eat, don't forget the dishes.
