Vajrayana Buddhist meaning of Patience by Tulku Tsori Rinpoche

Tulku Tsori Rinpoche
From a Vajrayana Buddhist point of view there are 3 levels of patience.

The first level of patience is what we all know to be tolerance. To be able to listen to someone without interjecting and understanding that persons point of view by putting oneself in their shoes and just being tolerant and patient.

The second level of patience is action! Yes, believe it or not action. To be benefitting others through your actions. This level of patience is not about waiting, and waiting, and then waiting, and waiting , waiting , and waiting some more.....that is not patience, that is laziness.....so if you know how to help others, to put others first, if you see a need and can benefit others through your actions and you do it for them, no matter how long it takes,
if we learn to perservere for eachother, then this is true patience, because this level of patience will endure personal hardship for the benefit of others.

If we can focus our priorities on others, rather than ourselves, than we are learning about real patience, and this would mean we are learning the second level of patience which again is action for the sake of others, not thinking of oneself, but rather doing whats best for the other.

The third and most important level of patience is realization into the true nature of mind.... this is only brought about by your own hard work and effort through meditation and realization, this is the highest level of patience, this is the patience that all the great Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have shown us through their dedication and their enlightened intention towards all sentient beings.

Once you realize this, than naturally you will also know  that all beings are Buddha, that every being has that Buddha nature, that no being is seperate from that nature, which means every being is Buddha.
When we truly do the hard work and dedicate ourselves to discovering this truth we will not only benefit ourselves, but our lives will naturally be a benefit to others.

Once we discover this for ourselves by practicing the third level of patience we will know that from all the planets of the universe, down to the flesh of this very body, all of it, is but an illusion..
