Gang Rape arrest Jakarta quarter, new information revealed

A fourth suspect wanted for the gang rape of a woman aboard a public minibus was arrested earlier this month in South Jakarta on Tuesday, police said.

Andri police captured, alias Putaw in Padang, West Sumatra, where it is believed he fled after the incident on September 1, according to the police chief of South Jakarta Mr. COMRA. Imam Sugianto.

Two others, and Aris Sebastian, also arrested in Padang earlier this month, while Yogi, the driver of Angkota (minibus) in question, was arrested in Jakarta on September 13.

The three suspects captured in Padang are still detained there because the police had not yet obtained tickets to fly to Jakarta, said the imam.

He said police had questioned and Andri, who think that led to the gang rape. Now they think they have a clearer picture of how the crime occurred - a version of events which largely refuted the victim's account.

The Imam said the victim, an employee of 27 years of age, department stores identified as RS, was raped by two of the suspects, Andri and Yogi, and not all four as previously reported.

Initial reports indicated he was not familiar with RS Yogi or any of the others, who were said Angkota passengers who lifted while she waits for a bus in southern Jakarta.

But police said the victim knew Andri and organized via text message to their meeting in the rotunda of the hotel in downtown Jakarta, Indonesia on the day she was raped.

Angkota Andri came to the other three and offered to leave his home RS Pondok Gede, Bekasi. Then he entered the vehicle, tried to have sex with her against her will.

Police said Yogi Andri and then took turns raping her while Sebastian Aris grabbed her and stole their belongings.

Then he stopped at the intersection Trakindo in Cilandak, South Jakarta.

Police also said the victim did not report the rape, as mentioned above, and instead of returning to the intersection of a week to seek Angkota Yogi. When it was finally discovered last week, she started screaming at two nearby police officers to arrest the driver.

The incident was the second case of rape committed on board a Angkota within a month.

On 16 August, 21-year-old college student Soelistio Pavita Livia was raped and murdered by the driver and passenger of a Angkota M24 in West Jakarta. His body was dumped in a ditch in Tangerang and discovered five days later.

The two cases, in combination with a series of sexual assault and robbery on board public transport, have led to closer scrutiny Angkota police and drivers.
