4500 couples tie knot in mass Jakarta wedding

More than four,000 underprivileged couples were legally joined along in matrimony in a very mass bridal ceremony held in Senayan Stadium, South Jakarta, on Tuesday.


The 4,501 couples wedded were from low-income families across the capital who had already been married in spiritual ceremonies, however were unable to get certificates as a result of they might not afford to pay the administration fees.

The youngest new couple were a try of 16-years-olds, whereas the oldest love-struck bride and groom were each eighty six.

“We thank God for having answered our prayers. we tend to finally got our wedding certificate,” said 86-year-old groom Rahman, from Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.

The event was organized by the Jakarta municipal government, the Pondok Kasih Foundation and tv station B Channel.

Hana Ananda, the founding father of Pondok Kasih, said there have been still several couples in Indonesia who had not been ready to legalize their wedding because of poverty.

""It touches my heart as a result of there are those who still take care of them (the couples) as a result of they're the those who live in slum areas like below the flyovers, dump-sites and others,"" Hana said.
